A Night At The Proms - Classical
Caloundra
In a high-spirited program of music and vibrant colour, the Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra (SCSO) will celebrate a night at The Proms with British and Australian favourites.
Featuring Australian composer Sean O'Boyle’s Olympia Australis from the Sydney Olympics, and his Sunrise on the Coast, inspired by the Banjo Paterson poem of the same name, the concert includes The Man from Snowy River and other Australian classics from Percy Grainger, Peter Allen and The Seekers.
The concert also features the world premiere of Uncharted Horizons, written by young Brisbane composer Adele Mitchell at just 16 years of age. Immersing the listener in a cinematic journey through majestic landscapes, the piece takes a musical expedition into unexplored territories, evoking a sense of awe and wonder as it paints vivid sonic portraits of vast landscapes and epic adventures.
Now 17 years old and in year 12 at Brisbane State High School, Adele has a keen interest in cinematic composition and has been composing for a variety of ensembles since the age of 12. Winning several high profile composition competitions, Adele’s works have been recorded and performed around Australia, the United States, and through Europe.
Sunshine Coast soprano Renae Suttie, joined by Dean Doyle, will sing favourites from both hemispheres, such as The White Cliffs of Dover, We’ll Meet Again, I am Australian and I Still Call Australia Home.
With perennial British favourites including Elgar’s Nimrod, the Dambusters March and the Spitfire Prelude and Fugue, A Night at the Proms will be a feast of celebratory music and imagery.
Founded in 1972 and now conducted by Dr. Fletcher Mitchell, the Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra believes in providing exciting, accessible music of all periods in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Tickets are available from The Events Centre. General admission $49, Concession $39, Children (2-17 years) $14.
