Acclaimed jazz accordionist John Reeves returns to the stage with his much-loved Ragbags, presenting an evening of exuberant, genre-defying jazz at Eudlo Hall on Saturday 9 May at 6:30pm.
Renowned for their infectious energy and adventurous musical spirit, John Reeves’ Ragbags deliver a richly textured performance drawing from Gypsy Jazz, New Orleans jazz, French musette, Brazilian and African influences as well as timeless selections from the Great American Songbook. The result is a concert experience that is at once sophisticated, playful and deeply engaging — music that invites listeners to tap their toes and be swept along by spontaneous and interactive improvisation.
Fresh from recent studies in central France with esteemed accordion master Jacques Mornet at the Centre National et International Music Accordion (CNIMA), Reeves is eager to share the expressive and virtuosic possibilities of the jazz accordion. Trained initially as a classical pianist at London’s Royal College of Music, then moving into jazz and taking all of that to the accordion, Reeves has performed internationally in Japan, Taiwan, UK and at some of Australia’s most prestigious venues, including the Sydney Opera House, Hamer Hall and Bennett’s Lane
